About Me

Kate Stewart, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist · LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapist

Hello, I'm glad you're here.

I became a therapist because I believe deeply in people’s capacity to heal — not in spite of who they are, but because of it. I work with adults who are navigating some of life’s most tender terrain: identity, grief, anxiety, trauma, and the slow, hard work of becoming more fully themselves.

For over a decade, I’ve had the privilege of sitting with people at all stages of that journey. I bring warmth, clinical rigor, and genuine curiosity to every session. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy; I tailor my approach to you — your story, your pace, your goals.

I have a particular commitment to the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized communities, including BIPOC individuals, disabled people, and those navigating the intersection of multiple identities. I know from experience that finding a therapist who truly gets it can make all the difference — and I strive to be that clinician for my clients.

My therapeutic approach

I draw from several evidence-based frameworks, always letting the client guide which tools feel most useful:

EMDR

For processing trauma and deeply held beliefs

DBT Skills

For emotional regulation and distress tolerance

ACT

Acceptance & Commitment — values-based living

Narrative Therapy

Rewriting unhelpful stories about yourself

Attachment Theory

Understanding relational patterns

Somatic Awareness

The body’s role in healing

Who I work with

I work with adults (18+) across the gender spectrum, sexual orientations, relationship structures, races, ethnicities, body sizes, and ability statuses. I actively work to dismantle the ways that systemic oppression shows up in the therapy room. My practice is explicitly anti-racist, anti-ableist, and weight-neutral.
